Transportation of clients or personal belongings is NOT a service that Provincial Homecare provides unless authorized to do.  Therefore, it is not the role or responsibility of employees to undertake this action unless authorized to do so by your supervisor.

Any transport of client without the authorization of a Provincial Homecare supervisor is putting both you and the client at risk and as such will result in disciplinary action and/or immediate dismissal.

If a client is authorized for transportation the Home Support worker has the right to refuse to provide such services.

If the Home Support worker chooses to transport the client, they must be aware that they are choosing to do so at their own discretion and they must ensure the following  prior to undertaking any transportation of clients:

The vehicle owner has valid and adequate insurance to be able to transport clients and workers, as there is special coverage required called “passenger coverage”.

  • The name on the insurance certificate includes the driver and the vehicle being used.
  • The vehicle is properly registered.
  • The home support worker and/or driver have a valid driver’s license.
  • The vehicle is safe to operate.
  • No other people are in the vehicle.
  • An updated copy of the valid driver’s license, vehicle registration, and insurance are to be provided to there supervisor on an annual basis and prior to transporting any clients.
