The use of PPE is dictated by the RHA when a client is referred to the services of Provincial Homecare. In most instances, if PPE is required, the RHA and/or the client provides the necessary PPE. PPE refers to a variety of barriers (gloves, gowns, face protection, masks), used alone or in combination to protect mucous membranes, skin, and clothing from contact with potential infectious agents. The selection of PPE is based on the nature of the client interaction and/or the likely mode of transmission. It should be stressed that the use of PPE does not replace the need to follow basic infection control measures such as hand hygiene.

During an outbreak and/or pandemic, Provincial Homecare will follow the PPE guidelines and protocols of the NL Department of Health & Community Services.
